DAVE MADE A MAZE

Su, 24.09. | 15:30

Dave made a maze. Out of cardboard. In his living room. It is a few meters long and maybe two meters wide. But when his girlfriend Annie comes into the apartment, he tells her he got lost in it and can’t find his way out. And inside it is considerably bigger than outside, the maze. Together with a few friends, Annie dares to enter into the cardboard world, and yes, the sheer endless succession of rooms, chambers, and halls must really be called a world. But Dave’s maze is a dangerous place, full of lethal traps and other weirdness. “Dave Made a Maze” is one of the great film surprises this year: with the smallest budget the director Bill Waterston has created a cardboard world overflowing with richly imaginative designs and interior decoration. The closed-in-ness of this treasure in light brown and also its perspectival tricks recall such luxuriously designed film set classics as THE 5,000 FINGERS OF DR. T; its playful nature – a new sensation around every corner! – is an homage to Steven Spielberg’s adult children’s films from the eighties. The audience will certainly stumble out of the cinema with shining eyes, intoxicated by hormones of happiness, because all it takes is a little cardboard and a lot of imagination to make a world of your own. Let’s go!
